A starry, moonlit Partridge in a Pear Tree

A starry, moonlit Partridge in a Pear Tree

I have a fascination for starry, moonlit paintings...

Whilst trying to imagine my version of "A Partridge in a Pear Tree," I began experimenting first with a fantastical tree.  My desire was to start the painting out with an espaliered pear tree.  The inspiration for the tree came about after a recent tour of P. Allen Smith's beautiful farmhome in Roland, Arkansas.  To my mind, Moss Mountain gardens represent the ultimate potager garden.  Since many of my paintings are inspired by botanical and wildlife, loads of insight and motivation for my own potager garden, and of course art creations, arose after the visit.

The foundation of "Partridge in a Pear Tree" is a single espallier branch, since including the entire tree would reduce the scale of the heart of the painting:  the partridge.

This version of "A Partridge in a Pear Tree" expanded my vision and indulged my tendency toward fanciful and fantastical (i.e., note the meteor shower taking place amid the stars.)  To quote Pascal Mercier, "Life is not what we live; it is what we imagine we are living."

(Brilliant use of a beautifully crafted (yet dearly departed) espallied tree gone to collect its reward... alas being beautifully displayed upon the wall of an enchanting Mossy Mountain hexagonal garden shed.

Inspiration for 10 Lords A-Leaping

10 Lords A-Leaping has truly been one of the most FUN projects in my "Twelve Days of Christmas" painting project so far!  I contemplate many mediums for artistic inspiration. I came across a Pinterest page featuring the Royal Ballet of London's performance of the "Tale of Jeremy Fisher."  The images of the coloured botanical backgrounds, water plants, trout, water beetle and, of course, a frog named Jeremy  are absolutely enchanting.

The main focus of "Eight Maids-a-Milking" is to evoke delight and to bring a smile to the viewer.  Who does not love a black and white mamma sow and her tiny, wiggly piglets?  I sincerely hope that you delight in this depiction of the age-old song verse of "Twelve Days of Christmas.
