Inspiration for 10 Lords A-Leaping

Inspiration for 10 Lords A-Leaping

January 02, 2022

10 Lords A-Leaping has truly been one of the most FUN projects in my "Twelve Days of Christmas" painting project so far!  I contemplate many mediums for artistic inspiration. I came across a Pinterest page featuring the Royal Ballet of London's performance of the "Tale of Jeremy Fisher."  The images of the coloured botanical backgrounds, water plants, trout, water beetle and, of course, a frog named Jeremy  are absolutely enchanting.

Eight Maids A-Milking

Eight Maids A-Milking

December 26, 2021

The main focus of "Eight Maids-a-Milking" is to evoke delight and to bring a smile to the viewer.  Who does not love a black and white mamma sow and her tiny, wiggly piglets?  I sincerely hope that you delight in this depiction of the age-old song verse of "Twelve Days of Christmas.

A starry, moonlit Partridge in a Pear Tree

A starry, moonlit Partridge in a Pear Tree

December 26, 2021

The foundation of Kimberly Potts' version of "Partridge in a Pear Tree" is a single espallier branch, since including the entire tree would reduce the scale of the heart of the painting:  the partridge.   This version of "A Partridge in a Pear Tree" expanded the vision and indulged the tendency toward fanciful and fantastical (i.e., note the meteor shower taking place amid the stars.)

Art Journaling my solo trip through Northern Italy

Art Journaling my solo trip through Northern Italy

Church Cat by Kimberly Potts, Artist

Inspiration behind the Church Cat

December 22, 2019

Last Fall I was for an evening walk, when I suddenly "felt eyes."  I looked up and noticed a cat peering out at me from behind a beautiful stained glass window.  The cat never shifted its gaze from me.  I never forgot the image.  Most significantly, I never forgot the feeling, and the subsequent mood it created in my mind.  These kind of experiences inspire me to be creative.    "Church Cat" is very atmospheric and shadowy.  The viewer may not see the cat instantly; instead, the cat slowly ...

Necessary

Necessary

February 17, 2019

I am a very spontaneous and splashy artist, and the Arteza pens react immediately, almost like confetti!  What I mean by this is, “whatever happens, happens” and I am satisfied with the result. I assume the universe is giving me divine direction. This exercise is extremely gratifying (and necessary) for a watercolor artist.

Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas

Happy Holidays & Merry Christmas

December 26, 2018

I have a couple of paperwhite bulbs blooming profusely on my kitchen bar. The scent is cloying, heavy and blanketing, like a powdery white snow. To me, it is a sweet reminder that spring is just around the corner.
